Highs and Lows of Life

Reading through Psalm makes me realize how David's life was a lot of highs and a lot of lows. When he was at his low, he described it as being in miry clay and sinking. When he was in the lowly place, he still cried out to God to save him plus he praised God too! During those times he exalted God, knowing where his help comes from. So many times, we get caught up in our situation and forget to praise Him for the work He is doing in our lives. Even in my life, the struggles are real! As one cousin pointed out to me that I tend to be a people pleaser. I battle back and forth with this issue. There's only one person who I need to fear, and that is God Himself. I wrote this poem some time ago...some of it rhymes and some don’t. I don't like you and you don't like me But if we're both Christians, guess where we'll be for all of eternity. What is it that you don't like about me And what is it that I don't like about you? Is it the green-eyed mons...

Reminiscing About My Enlistment

2 January 1974 Written 2 January 2023 What was happening 49 years ago today? I swore into the active duty Air Force, and I was planning on staying for 6 years. I had two little children and I needed to make a living for them. It was hard leaving my babies, but I felt I had no other alternatives. I always wanted to be a nurse, and I felt I could go to college to do it through the VA. It didn't happen quite like I wanted because I became a jet engine mechanic, and although I was used to working long hours, the military doesn't pay you overtime. Being the first female jet engine mechanic to go to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana was TOUGH! My son was telling my neighbor that I was a jet engine mechanic, and when I got home, she informed me about the "lies" he was telling. Life was tough, but I met some great people who encouraged me along the way! I had some amazing assignments/experiences, which I am thankful for and can use in other areas of my life. Six years tur...

Living Water Flows Freely

Image
Gary Mehlhoff at the Artesian Well I had posted this picture of Gary at the artesian well on Facebook, and later as I was working in my garden and I was reminded of Christ being "our" living water. His love flows freely! You must accept Him as your Savior! We had never been to this well before. We knew it existed, but had never taken the time to go. As one friend said, "It is the best water in the world." Accepting Christ as your Savior is the BEST living water you could ever have in your life! I'm sure you've heard of Christ and His dying on the cross for your sins. Maybe you've avoided the avenue which leads to Him. I encourage you to quit dodging Him and take the time to find Him. He will quench your thirst! It's your choice to accept Him or reject Him. I encourage you to read the book of John. Read it out loud and let the words sink in. He is waiting for you to come to the fountain of living water! "Whoever is thirsty, let him come; an...

Asking God to Change Me

Asking God to Change Me? For years I have prayed for God to change me! You ask, “Why would anyone pray that, knowing that He will take you through circumstances which you have no control.” I want to be less of me and more about Him! I like the analogy a piano tuner gave me once. She said if a piano has been out of tune for a while, you don’t get it in perfect tune right away because if you did you would break/destroy the wire. God doesn’t want to destroy us, so He slowly uses things/people/circumstances to change us. When we are His, we want to submit to His will and what is best for our lives! Many times, we think we know what is best but we can’t see the BIG picture. He is in the process of orchestrating everything for our good and His glory! Romans 8:28-29 28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the i...

Are You Teachable?

If  you can't look inward and see what God is trying to teach you through adversities, then you might have a problem. I view every battle as an opportunity to grow. Do you always think it is the other person who has the problem? If it is always the other person who has the problem, then seek God's wisdom and not man's. Why do I say, not man's? We tend to go to people who are going to tell us what we want to hear. God is going to tell us what we need to hear. Proverbs 9:7-9 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.   Written by Wanda Danner Mehlhoff 6 Sep 2019

Anger, Resentment, Bitterness, and Hatred

Anger, Resentment, Bitterness, and Hatred by Wanda Danner Mehlhoff 28 Aug 2001             What happens to our inner being when we experience these characteristics?   Who do we become?   Can you feel at peace?   Is your life always in a turmoil?   Why do we hang onto these things that create these feelings inside of us–is it pride or is it our way of controlling to get what we want or do we hold on to it hoping that the person(s) will feel as miserable as we do?   Last night after watching a movie named “American History X” , I really started thinking about these things called Anger and Hatred.   I felt my eyes were opened to see what Satan really does not want us to know.   I detest it when I know someone has been speaking ill of me.   When I speak ill of someone else, I detest myself because I can’t keep my big mouth shut and just let it die down.   Last night it was shown ...
