Reminiscing About My Enlistment

What was happening 49 years ago today? I swore into the active duty Air Force, and I was planning on staying for 6 years. I had two little children and I needed to make a living for them. It was hard leaving my babies, but I felt I had no other alternatives. I always wanted to be a nurse, and I felt I could go to college to do it through the VA. It didn't happen quite like I wanted because I became a jet engine mechanic, and although I was used to working long hours, the military doesn't pay you overtime. Being the first female jet engine mechanic to go to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana was TOUGH!

My son was telling my neighbor that I was a jet engine mechanic, and when I got home, she informed me about the "lies" he was telling.
Life was tough, but I met some great people who encouraged me along the way! I had some amazing assignments/experiences, which I am thankful for and can use in other areas of my life.
Six years turned into 26 years! Yesterday was 23 years ago I retired!
